Here are just some of the DIY Refrigerator Repair Tips and Tricks
You would need to unplug your refrigerator for any of those.
Sometimes your refrigerator produces tiny ice cubes. This problem is usually related to the water supply being partially or completely blocked. In order to fix those blockages, you have to look at 3 possible issues. But first, you have to make sure to unplug your refrigerator from the power source. For DIY refrigerator repair here is what you can do:
1)When water pressure is low the pipe that provides water to our icemaker can get plugged with ice. The slow-moving water freezes easily and can plug the tube before it reaches the ice maker. Remove the icemaker from its place by unscrewing the screws that hold it. Unplug the wiring harness. Remove the icemaker. Now you will see the water inlet tube.
2) Take a hairdryer and put it over the inlet tube until all the ice is melted. Do not stop drying until the water completely stops dripping out of it.
3) Saddle valve connects most icemakers to the water supply. The problem is that the needle hole in the pipe can get clogged. You have to locate the saddle valve and clean it. It can be beneath your fridge or under your kitchen sink.
Most icemakers are connected to the household water supply by a “saddle” valve. One problem with saddle valves is that the needle hole in the pipe can clog. Fortunately, that blockage is easy to clear once you locate the saddle valve (Photo 3). If you have an unfinished basement, you’ll probably find a tube beneath the fridge that leads to the valve. Otherwise, look under your kitchen sink. Once you see the saddle valve. Make sure to turn it clockwise to unblock it. You will clear mineral deposits from the pinhole by tightening it. Follow this by reopening the valve.
4) If cleaning the valve of mineral deposits does not work you must replace the valve. Unscrew the cover panel and remove the screws that hold the valve in place. Unplug the wiring and unscrew the nuts that connect the water lines. Reverse these steps to install the new valve.
Problem: Fridge Is Leaking.
Sometimes the water supply lines that are connected to the ice maker and water dispenser leak. This makes puddles of water under your fridge. Also, every fridge produces water in the form of condensation and melting ice. When this process is damaged you get excess water that leaks out on your floor. For DIY Refrigerator Repair follow those steps.
1) Check your water supply line. Pull out the ice maker and water dispenser and look for the leaks. If you see that leak is coming from the inlet valve you should tighten the compression nuts. If you see the plastic or copper tube is leaking you will need to order a new one and replace it. This tubbing is connected to the saddle valve and inlet valve with screw-on a compression fitting.
2) Sometimes the pan under the fridge that collects water for evaporation is badly tilted. This happens if the fridge is not straight. In that case, you will need to make sure your fridge is level. Most fridges have little whiles that will level it. As you go on with your DIY refrigerator repair make sure those whiles and on the level.
3) The drain tube located in the freezer can get plugged. If this happens that water will leak into the compartment below and eventually on the floor. To fix this unplug it and remove the cover panel. In some models, In some models, you will have to remove the floor panel as well. Use a hairdryer to melt any ice buildup. Clean up the area around the drain hole and remove all the water ice buildup. Blow the hot air of the hairdryer through the tube to clean it. You can also use a tire pump or air compressor to do this. When the drain tub is clean put everything back together and you are good to go.
Problem: The refrigerator is Noisy.
What do you do when your refrigerator is making a lot of noise. There are some DIY refrigerator repair solutions available. The nice in a refrigerator comes usually from either the compressor under your refrigerator or from the condenser fan motor under the fridge or evaporator fan valve inside of your freezer. You can check by opening the freezer door while the fridge is running. Most refrigerators have a condenser ran the motor. Remove the back cover and listen. You should be able to tell if the noise is coming from the compressor or the fan. If it is a compressor you might need to buy a new fridge. If it is a fan motor you can remove it and replace it.
